The President of the Kurdistan Region, after remaining in power for years, now claims that it’s not his responsibility to pay the salaries of workers. He passes the blame, saying that it’s the will of God, yet he continues to manage the region’s wealth, including oil and electricity, as he sees fit, while neglecting the fundamental needs of the population.
In fact, the oil and electricity revenue, meant to serve the people, is instead used for personal gain and to fund the luxury of political elites. The regions of Kurdistan have been exploited for decades, with land and assets being sold or leased to foreign companies under dubious conditions. These companies, often with close ties to political leaders, exploit the natural resources without any benefit for the citizens of the region.
The President, as well as the Barzani and Talabani families, have used their influence to create an environment of corruption, using public resources for personal wealth, selling land, and creating monopolies that harm ordinary citizens. Oil and gas revenues have been siphoned off to foreign companies or illegal routes, with profits never reaching the people who are the rightful owners of this wealth. Meanwhile, they forcefully control borders, denying the Kurdish population the right to benefit from their own resources.
And while the Kurdish people continue to struggle, with families living in poverty and lacking basic services, the leaders live a life of luxury, enjoying their ill-gotten wealth abroad. Meanwhile, they work to stifle any calls for transparency, accountability, or justice, resorting to violence and suppression to protect their interests.
The region’s oil wealth should be used to improve the living standards of its people. However, it has instead been wasted on political games, corrupt transactions, and the oppression of freedom fighters and journalists. The regime has used the wealth to buy off mercenaries and silence opposition, forcing anyone who demands justice or transparency into exile or silence.
Ultimately, if these corrupt practices are not stopped, the Kurdistan Region will continue to slide further into darkness and instability, with no hope for a better future unless true justice is restored. It’s time for the people to demand what is rightfully theirs: their resources, their dignity, and their future.
