Haval Rzgar – Political Activist
If we examine the psychology of the citizens of the Kurdistan Region, for the majority of them, life no longer has its previous value, because day by day the rights of citizens lose their meaning, also disease, unemployment, and poverty spread across society. Currently, there is no project in place to address these crises and restore hope to the people.
Now hundreds of thousands of youth graduate from universities and institutes but unemployed, and for this reason, education has lost its special status. The health and environmental sectors have also deteriorated, and all sectors in general have been privatized for partisan companies. Parliament has been rendered ineffective, the government is executive, and regarding public revenue, except for God and the heads of the two families, no one knows anything about it. This means corruption has become systematic. For this purpose, the judiciary, media, civil society organizations, and a large portion of opposition parties also serve this situation and have been placed under the influence of the ruling parties.Currently, manipulation and corruption have joined hands, and for this reason, political power has taken deep root, and there is no fear of public discontent, demonstrations, boycotts, social media criticism, or opposition parties.
The continuation of this situation for more than thirty-three years has caused the roots of corruption and oppression to go deeper into the soil. For this reason, day by day, the values of Kurdish society in terms of truthfulness, patriotism, love of nation, virtue, forgiveness, cooperation, and humanity are disappearing. This means the direction of society has moved toward creating a new culture under the influence of corruption and schemes. From this perspective, opposition parties, civil society organizations, writers, intellectuals, media workers, and business people – the majority of them have become part of this new space. In this situation, what they call patriotism and intimacy toward the nation and love for sovereignty and independence becomes weaker day by day, because they treat these as a market in this situation, and wherever there is profit, they turn and take steps in that direction.
From here you can ask: Where are most of the political and civil activists, writers, and intellectuals of February 17th now? Because homeland, nation, justice, democracy, and citizens’ rights have all come under question and have lost their meaning. The development of these concepts can never come to fruition under the shadow of a corrupt and oppressive system. Rather, these require a democratic atmosphere and the existence of genuine freedom and plurality, rule of law, and the existence of a constitution. Therefore, currently there needs to be a civil political project to stop this situation and direct people toward gathering around a national concern, because if this is not done, in the near future the government, the region’s framework, homeland, and nation will all head toward destruction and ruin.
