Karzan Khdr – Activists
It is evident to all that activists and journalists inside Kurdistan have persistently raised their voices against injustice and the systemic suppression of the people. However, their calls for freedom have often been silenced through imprisonment, torture, and even assassination. Despite these risks, a number of activists and journalists in the United Kingdom have, for several years now, continued their efforts to amplify the voices of the Kurdish people to the international community — a commendable act that deserves both domestic and international support.
As is well known, in recent years the conditions faced by the people of Kurdistan — particularly in areas under the control of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) — have deteriorated significantly in every aspect. These ruling parties have pursued policies of suppression and impoverishment as a means of maintaining control.
There is ample evidence that the leadership of these parties have systematically looted the wealth and resources of the Kurdistan Region, placing them under the control of their families and close associates. Construction projects, the oil sector, and the regional budget have been used directly for their own benefit.
The political system in Kurdistan has devolved into a familial and tribal regime, where anyone who opposes the leadership’s agenda risks imprisonment or, in some cases, assassination.
Now more than ever, the people of Kurdistan must become more aware of their rights and unite in collective resistance against this deeply corrupt system.
