On September 1, 2025, in Glasgow, the Dakok Organization held a significant commemoration activity marking the anniversary of the great betrayal of August 31. This historic day recalls the attack carried out by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) with the backing of Saddam Hussein’s Ba’ath regime against the Kurdistan Region, which resulted in the killing and injuring of hundreds of civilians.
As part of the commemoration, Dakok strongly condemned the assault of August 22, when militias of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), under the command of Bafel Talabani, launched a brutal attack against Lahur Sheikh Jangi and the Lalezare Hotel in Slemani using heavy weaponry, tanks, and drones. The assault caused the death of dozens of fighters and left many more injured.

Both of these betrayals by the KDP and PUK were highlighted as tragic events that undermined the entire democratic and freedom-seeking process in Kurdistan. By deploying their armed militias, these ruling parties systematically suppressed the voice of freedom and justice in the region.
The gathering in Glasgow reinforced Dakok’s mission to expose these acts of betrayal, to demand accountability, and to continue raising awareness of the heavy costs inflicted on the Kurdish people by political elites who prioritize power over justice and human rights.
