On the occasion of Kurdish Journalism Day, the Dakok Organization held coordinated gatherings in London and Manchester.

During the event, members of the organization reported observing individuals inside the Iraqi Consulate in Manchester monitoring participants from within the consulate premises. According to video footage recorded by Muhammad Murad Dakok member, an individual in formal attire was seen observing and recording the gathering from an upper-floor window while the President of the organization, Diyar Harki, was delivering remarks.

The Dakok Organization expresses concern regarding this apparent surveillance and considers it a potential attempt to collect information about its activities. The organization believes such actions may be intended for reporting to authorities in Baghdad and Erbil.

Dakok reaffirms its commitment to advocating for rights and freedoms and calls for respect for the rights of activists to carry out peaceful activities without monitoring or intimidation.

  1. Official Statement and Petition

Subject: Denunciation of Human Rights Violations and Surveillance Activities

As citizens and residents of this country, we hereby express our grave concern and firm condemnation regarding the actions of the Iraqi Consulate. Any conduct that undermines the fundamental rights of refugees or involves the surveillance and espionage of individuals seeking safety is a direct violation of international law and humanitarian principles.
Such activities are entirely unacceptable and stand in stark contrast to the values of freedom and security that this nation upholds. We believe that no diplomatic entity should be permitted to infringe upon the dignity or safety of any individual on this soil.

Therefore, we formally urge the relevant authorities of this country to:

    • Intervene immediately to stop these unlawful activities.

    • Ensure the protection of refugees and residents from any form of harassment or espionage.

    • Hold accountable those who misuse diplomatic privileges to violate human rights.
We stand united in our commitment to human rights and the protection of the vulnerable.
