In Kurdistan of Iraq , if a journalist or activist does not carry the slogan of a political party and is not under the protection of party leaders, they must always live in anticipation of being assassinated. Their assassination is going to be fabricated between the two ruling parties, and often, the cause of their assassination is considered as if they were a criminal.
In the past, we have witnessed several crimes of killing, kidnapping, and torturing journalists which unfortunately have not been stopped yet. In the most recent events, we saw the attempted assassination of (Heman Mamand) and the kidnapping of activist (Dler Zebari), which caused great fear and shock, leading once again to withdrawal and silencing of free and independent voices in the Kurdistan Region.
Unfortunately, whenever we hear a free and independent voice, we see the barrel of a gun ready on a shoulder to silence it very mercilessly. Do not be complicit in shedding the blood of those who with their words demand basic rights for their fellow citizens and want our homeland to breathe freely, wear beautiful clothes, and become a beautiful example of life.
Unfortunately, due to the absence and weakening of the judicial authority in the Kurdistan Region, we must be prepared daily to hear about and witness numerous crimes of killing, kidnapping, and torturing journalists and activists. As long as the judiciary is not independent and the executive power does not perform its duty, these events, known as the series of assassinations of freedom advocates, will continue.
