We live in an era that should embody democracy and freedom. Yet, in a country like Iraq—where genuine democratic governance ought to be established—the presence of an illegal armed group such as the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) poses a grave threat. The PMF undermines freedom, suppresses dissent, and targets advocates of liberty.
Although the PMF claims to be part of Iraq’s national defense system, in reality, it serves as an extension of Iranian influence, used to intimidate and oppress the people of Kurdistan and Iraq’s pro-democracy movements. These forces are neither national nor lawful—they are instruments of coercion and control.
Across Kirkuk, Mosul, Khanaqin, and Sinjar, the PMF has committed serious human rights violations, including acts of violence, intimidation, and political manipulation designed to marginalize Kurds and silence freedom-seekers. Such actions are unacceptable in any society striving for democracy and justice. No nation can be truly free while harboring unregulated, unaccountable militias that operate beyond the reach of the law.
As patriots and defenders of freedom, we call upon all the people of Iraq and Kurdistan to unite in peaceful resistance against the PMF’s illegitimate power.
The Government of Iraq must, without hesitation or compromise, remove the PMF from all state structures and bring all perpetrators of crimes and abuses to justice.
The Kurdish people—and all advocates of democracy—must stand together, raise their voices, and reject the normalization of such lawlessness.
The Popular Mobilization Forces stand as a direct challenge to the rights and freedoms of the Iraqi people. To safeguard liberty, sovereignty, and democracy, we must remain united and resolute in opposing their influence.
