Authority-Controlled Media and the Erosion of Authenticity

The use of “sacred symbols” by government-aligned media to undermine the religious authenticity of Kurdistan’s people is yet another tactic in their broader assault on national and spiritual identity. Drawing on Gramsci’s theory of cultural hegemony, those in power manipulate cultural narratives to entrench their ideology. In today’s Kurdistan, the media has become a tool for distorting reality, shaping public perception, and maintaining political control—gradually conditioning people to accept the ruling agenda without question.

Political Dialogue or Media Circus?

When political discourse devolves into spectacle, it signals a troubling disconnect between leaders and their responsibilities. Instead of addressing pressing national issues, debates are reduced to performative games that serve the elite rather than the people. This shift from substantive discussion to superficial theatrics reflects a systemic failure to prioritize the public good.

Oil Wealth and Historical Plunder

While the impoverished are placated with symbolic gestures, those in power monopolize Kurdistan’s oil revenues and public resources. As Hannah Arendt observed, persistent deception is not intended merely to spread falsehoods but to erode faith in any truth. When people lose confidence in reality itself, despair takes hold—creating the conditions for authoritarian rule to solidify.

The Solution: Reviving Civil Society

Reclaiming Kurdish and religious authenticity requires a strong civil society and independent media capable of countering state propaganda. The people must recognize that Kurdistan’s wealth belongs to everyone, not just a corrupt elite. As Gramsci argued, meaningful change emerges through a “war of ideas,” where intellectual engagement fuels political transformation.

Ultimately, confronting harsh realities should not lead to fear but serve as a catalyst for radical change. Only by acknowledging the truth can Kurdistan break free from systemic oppression and build a future based on justice and self-determination.
