On April 22, 2025, the DAKOK organization held a major strategic meeting in Birmingham, uniting trustees, council members, and community representatives to share updates and lay the foundation for a renewed vision of the organization’s future.
The meeting began with the official announcement of DAKOK’s new website, www.dakok.org.uk, which offers a range of new features aimed at improving accessibility, transparency, and digital engagement with members. The site is designed to serve as a central hub for organizational updates, member services, and community resources.
One of the most significant developments presented was the launch of the new DAKOK ID system. This feature allows members to easily verify their membership status directly through the website. It reflects a broader effort to enhance transparency, accountability, and inclusivity within the organization.
Further discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening the role of DAKOK’s seven councils, and improving direct engagement between trustees and members. DAKOK leadership emphasized their ongoing commitment to a path rooted in justice, unity, and community service—a direction that both the organization and its members will continue to follow in partnership.
As part of this renewed vision, the DAKOK Board also announced a new initiative in collaboration with the Mawlawi Cultural Centre: the second edition of the first-ever Kurdish Book Fair in the United Kingdom, this time taking place in Leeds. This landmark event aims to promote Kurdish language, literature, and cultural identity among the Kurdish diaspora.
The book fair is dedicated to the memory of the late journalist Wrya Hamekareem, celebrating his legacy of free expression, cultural resistance, and lifelong commitment to the Kurdish cause.
This important meeting highlighted both DAKOK’s strategic progress and its growing role in fostering civic engagement and cultural pride among Kurds in the UK.
