Barham Khalid – Activists
I am confident that the dream of most of us is for Kurdish society to one day step onto a proper path—to become a stable society with solid foundations, to have a sound educational system, and to become a hub of productivity where many capable graduates from our universities and colleges can reach the highest levels and utilize their skills effectively.
This is not a fantasy or illusion, and I have no doubt that one day we will witness it. Even if we do not, a generation more aware than us—more thoughtful, more courageous, and more transparent—will step into the arena and realize those dreams, putting an end to the rule of the twin oxen who have long governed.
The philosophy of governance is to serve and support the people—not like this twin oxen who, for many years, have pursued a rule full of corruption and lack of transparency.
All modern governance systems in the world focus on cultivating educated and progressive youth. Political competition is about who can reach power faster to implement their party’s agenda in a way that offers the most service to citizens. The public interest should be the clear foundation of their work.
But in the Kurdistan Region, the reality is completely the opposite. Due to the failed rule of two family-based parties, power has failed—after more than 30 years—to deliver a dignified life. It does not allow individuals in society to be free in their thoughts, reflections, or expression of opinions. Power has stained its hands with the blood of those journalists for whom bullets were the only answer to criticism. This is a power that carries the shame of the betrayals of August 31 and October 16—worthy of condemnation, not praise.
