Baghdad Punishes Ordinary Citizens Instead of Officials and Salary Earners!
- Baghdad’s officials have consistently used the salaries and entitlements of the people of the Kurdistan Region as leverage in response to any political stance taken by the Region’s leaders.
- Why does Baghdad fail to confront the rampant oil smuggling carried out by Kurdish officials? Why does it overlook their personal interests, yet focuses solely on the salaries of ordinary public servants?
- We all understand that the decision by Thaif Sami and other Baghdad officials to suspend salaries is not rooted in administrative or financial concerns—it is a direct reaction to Barzani’s threats and Masrour Barzani’s geopolitical alignments, including the Region’s drift toward the American bloc.
- Thus, these decisions are inherently political, and the issue of public servants’ wages has been dragged into these power struggles. If you cannot resolve your political disputes without targeting public salaries, then stop using threats and political blackmail as tools of negotiation.
- Do not make the salary earners of Kurdistan victims of party and personal interests.
Frankly, I have no idea what real benefit senior Kurdish officials in Baghdad have ever secured for the people of Kurdistan.
Let’s not forget: the Kurdistan Region has never been transparent about its oil revenues. Baghdad no longer trusts the Region’s officials—and ultimately, it is the employees and citizens who are punished. They are denied their rightful share of national wealth.
